Angola Penitentiary “Farming on the Farm” Exhibit
The Louisiana State Penitentiary Museum at Angola is proud to present its first traveling exhibit at the Vermilion Parish Library: Farming on the Farm. Come see historical and contemporary images of agricultural production on the largest prison farm in the United States photographed by both Angola and Angolite staff. A former plantation and still a working farm staffed by inmates, Angola consists of 18,000 acres of the finest farm land in the South. Housing approximately 5,000 men, “The Farm” has traditionally supplied all of the vegetables that the prisoners on Angola eat. Learn about “Farming on the Farm” from the early 1900s when Louisiana purchased Angola, until the present agricultural operations of this century.
The exhibit will be on display at the Abbeville Branch of the Vermilion Parish Library until the end of August. For more information call 337-893-2674.
